February 19, 1944 registered airmail cover from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
to Maurituis in the Indian Ocean. Cover traveled from Saskatoon to Ottawa,
then to Montreal and then to Miami, Florida, where it was backstamped
February 22. Cover arrived in Maurituis May 20, 1944 where it was backstamped
at the General Post Office. The 85 cent comprises 75 cents postage and
10 cents registration fee. This is a very scarce
World War 2 destination from Canada. Excellant condition.

World War 2 Prisoner of War airmail letter sent from Camp 30 at Bowmanville,
Ontario to Germany. Has a "Base A.P.O. Canada Ap 13 ' 43 CDS (#M9-2 with
RF "D") & also a "BASE A.P.O. CANADA APR 13 1943" machine cancel that
is not in "Bailey & Toop". Straight line "Examined by censor DB 583" handstamp
on front plus a German Ab circular censor mark on front as well as same
mark on back tieing a plain brown re-sealing tape to the lettersheet.
Small inch & a half tear to the back flap, probably from opening. Otherwise
great condition.

Dates on front can not be read, but there is a Lisbon, Portugal 16 February 1943 transit CDS on the back. 2 straight line Canadian censor handstamps on the front & that's it. No German censor marks. Probably held a bulk mailing of POW mail. A great cover for the war issue collector. Some minor creases at edges as is to be expected. Also one small tear at bottom just below censor handstamp. | |
